As I started my Internet marketing business, I had no idea what I was getting myself into. I started selling on eBay with the guidance of John Thornhill’s 90 Day Power Seller Challenge and JL Scott’s Cracking the Auction Code. I have seen the Make Money on the Internet ads all over the Internet and thought they were all scams, but I have realized several things over the past year:
- You can make it big online
- It requires actual work
- It will require some learning and there are great information products to help you along the way
Statement number 3 is where I fit in to the equation. I want to be Your Internet Income Advisor and I want you to learn from me. I do post how to videos on YouTube about internet marketing skills that I have learned. I plan to post and maybe host videos on this blog. I would like the videos to be well done and about what my readers want. If you do not know how to do something, use my Contact Me Form to send me questions or video ideas or post a comment.
If you want to make money online without doing any work, then you are going to think many of the information products out on the market are a scam. No matter what the product is or what the product claims, it is going to require work, at least at the beginning to implement the money making strategy. Once many of these systems are in place, the work to maintain them is minimal and you could even earn money while you sleep.
Selling on eBay to Make Money
Filed under: Resale Rights on eBay, Research, eBay Research, eBay Strategy

I got my start in my home based business by selling on eBay and I started this Internet marketing venture at the prompting of my brother-in-law, JL Scott. He knew my family was just getting by on what my wife and I were making as high school teachers and asked me if I would be interested in earning some extra money by selling on eBay. My interest was peaked and my work from home business was born. The really cool thing about selling on eBay is that anyone can do it.
I am about to make a bold statement: there is only one way to make money on eBay. Just a quick scan at the eBay home page will show you at least ten different items for sale on eBay, but the keyword in the first part of this sentence is ‘sale’. To work from home and make money on eBay you must sell something. Many people are under the impression if you start an online auction on eBay the item will sell. That is not necessarily true. The item might sell, but without the proper eBay market research, it might not sell for the highest price possible. If you trying to establish an eBay business, then you will want every online auction that closes to close for the highest price possible.
To increase the closing rates and profits on an eBay auctions there are several areas that one should consider researching:
- Type of auction
Starting day
Listing duration
Ending day
Keywords
Staring price of regular auction, price of BIN (Buy It Now) auction
Listing enhancements.
I primarily have sold information products (eBooks) on eBay. Depending on how you want to run your eBay business, selling eBooks on eBay can run on virtual autopilot. There is software created and sold by Paul Ponna, called Auction Acrobat which integrates eBay, PayPal and Kunaki to automate the entire shipping process. Using an order fulfillment company like Kunaki will decrease profits because of a slightly higher shipping cost, but it frees up time to concentrate on converting eBay customers into customers outside of eBay.
Selling eBooks alone on eBay is not the only way to start an eBay business. I have seen eBay sellers, like myself, sell only eBooks and I have seen eBay sellers dominating a niche and selling one information product. For the second group, of eBay sellers, by selling eBooks, they increase their bottom line in two ways.
First, they increase the amount of money they make. Even if these sellers use a fulfillment company for these orders, they are selling the eBooks for no less than $9.97 and if they are selling 100-200 per month, that is between $997 and $1,994 in sales. So, even if the profit on each item sold was say $5, that would mean an extra $500 – $1,000 of income and it is on virtual autopilot.
Secondly, the additional eBook sales count toward PowerSeller status. There are several benefits to obtaining PowerSeller status on eBay, one of which is PowerSellers receive discounts on final value fees and listing upgrade fees.
Since these sellers have established themselves in a niche, they have credibility as an eBay seller and will be successful selling almost any eBook about how to sell on eBay.
The Power of Web 2.0

The power of web 2.0 sites aka social networking sites to help drive traffic to websites is amazing!! My good friend and mentor JL Scott is preparing to launch his first information product about how he became a Tituium PowerSeller on eBay (over $250,000 per month in sales). He wanted to test his sales copy on eBay. I asked him if he wanted me to make a video testimonial and post it on youtube. He told me that would be cool and I did. I made and posted the video on youtube and then embedded (a fancy word for putting the youtube video on another site) the video on my blog and other social networking sites. I linked the video to my eBay store and started chatting up product on my sites. The four items that were listed had many more hits than any of my products ever had before!! As JL was doing his keyword research for his sales page, MY youtube video came up! I was stoked when he emailed me. This one video will help drive traffic to his product and I owe all to free social networking sites such as youtube, myspace or one of the many others such as tagged or facebook (which I have not created an account at just yet, but will be in the near future. |
Shipping Information Products on eBay
I have got a new look to my blog. All of the big time internet marketers have a blog and discuss internet marketing strategies. As you may know, I got my start on eBay selling resale rights. I achieved Power Seller Status in 4 months. I read and applied many of the concepts of John Thornhill. He does not keep his eBay identity secret: planetsms. I learned and applied everything I know under the eBay id complete-home-business-guide.
I started selling in July of 2008 and I was awarded PowerSeller status in October of 2008. During that time I spent documenting what and how I handled every aspect of my eBay business. Many times the why of what I was doing was taught to me by my mentor JL
Scott.I took videos and wrote an eBook that will be released late January into early February. The eBook details – step by step – how to become a PowerSeller selling eBooks on eBay. Once my book is released I will be starting to sell resale rights products under a different eBay ID. I have not decided on that name, but when I come up with one, I will be sure to blog about it. When selling information products that CAN digitally delivered but are sold at regular auction or a fixed price auction on eBay, a physical product (ie a CD ROM) must be shipped. Now, from what I read, this really crippled many eBay sellers. I came into the resale rights game just after eBay forced sellers to deliver a CD ROM. So, I have never known the ease of a totally automated information product business. After a while, I began to see a pattern develop and started to make multiple copies of my best sellers. This saved a tremendous amount of time when I had to ship.
JL Scott’s Cracking the Auction Code
Below is a promo video I did for my good friend and mentor JL Scott. It is about his eBook, Cracking the Auction Code. I am helping him with his pre-launch selling on eBay. It was his book that got me started selling on eBay. Before JL’s book, we were just good friends that hung out and played Rock Band on his PS3!
Those were good times and because of JL and his eBook about selling on eBay, I am now an eBay PowerSeller and have more time to rock and roll.
