Website Traffic

I am currently learning how to drive traffic to websites. The overall goal for me to drive traffic to any website is to make money! I have started this blog as a place to share my thoughts on what I learn as I grow into a full time internet marketer.

As I learn what it takes to drive targeted traffic to a web site, web page or even a blog, I am taking notes and want to share some of what I learn with the world.

If you want to make money online and you want to work from home you are going to need to develop traffic to your content. You could have the BEST original content on your website, but without consistent and interested visitors, you CANNOT reap the rewards.

Auto Responders and Blogs

My post yesterday was just a quick post to see if I had set up my auto responder correctly to broadcast my blog updates to my subscribers. Well, it did not broadcast as planned and I think I have figured out why. Let me explain.
It takes a while for the auto responder to “catch up” with what is happening in my blog and I made the post way too soon after making my blog post. Therefore, no one on my opt in list received an email about the update to my blog. Hence, I have something else to blog about.
Just another word about why auto responders are so cool.

My wife asks me the other day, “So is this email thing like a set it and forget it?” And I am sure you may have the same question. The answer is yes!! Once you set up a series of emails, the auto responder will send the emails out to every new subscriber in the order you originally set and if you get behind in making marketing emails and your current list will start receiving the new emails you create as you create them.
Before I started building my email list, by putting opt in boxes on my blog, web page and eBay account, I created about 30 marketing emails and sign up to my list to make sure they looked good and were being sent (which they did). This way, after I made the opt ins live in their various positions on the web, my subscribers would start receiving my emails and I would not waste a single subscriber.
Instead of subscribing to the email list myself, my auto responder allows me to test the email before I save it to my list, but I figured, I might as well get the same emails as the people I am marketing to.
A good friend of mine has been building an opt in list for a few months and has over 100 subscribers, but he does not have any follow up emails set to go out. I asked him, why don’t you start creating marketing emails. I explained to him how they will go out to all of his new subscribers as well as his old subscribers. He told me some lame excuse about not wanting to start to bother those people with emails after never emailing them for so long. I had to remind about another really cool feature offered by auto responders. In each email, a subscriber can “unsubscribe” or opt out by clicking a link contained in the email.
Anyway, that is all for now.

Just a Quick Post

This is just a really quick post to test out my new blog broadcaster through my Awber account. It is a really cool feature that will allow me to create an email list around my blog and allow people to sign up through my blog to receive email updates about my blog!!

Creating Your Own Products to Sell

January 25, 2009 by David John · Leave a Comment
Filed under: Being Dad, Creating Your Own Products

I was up at 7:30 this morning with my wife and kids. It was great! The new baby, David John Jr. was awake in his rocker next to our bed and our 3 and 4 year old came running in and opened the curtains and told us, “how come it is not morning time in this window, but it is morning time in this window?” You see, our one window faces north and our other window faces east, so the one window was getting the morning light and the other was not, but how do you explain that to a 4 year old! It was so damn cute!! Anyway, the girls climbed into bed with us and we just hung out for a half of an hour or so. It was a great way to start my day!

After drinking some coffee and checking my email, I sat down and began to work on my eBook. I do not want to give out too much information before I start to sell it, but it is about how to sell eBooks on eBay successfully. There are soooo many products out there that teach you how to sell eBooks (information products) on eBay, but they do not teach you how to maximize your sales and they do not teach you how to use eBay as a marketing tool to generate sales outside of eBay. That is one of the reasons I decided to create my own eBook.

I am a high school math teacher and I have learned how to break down time consuming tasks (which because of their length makes them difficult) into smaller and easier to understand chunks and that is what I have done with my eBook: Resell Rights Remix. It took me over 160 pages and 8 videos (over 2 hours worth) to do a good job of teaching one how to sell information products successfully on eBay.

If you are interested in learning more about resell rights products you can fill out the form to the right. By signing up you will receive a 7 part eCourse on resell rights.

My Wife’s New Blog

January 24, 2009 by David John · 1 Comment
Filed under: Internet Marketing

I have been working to make money on the Internet for under a year and have discovered a revolutionary thought: to make money on the Internet, you have to own more of the Internet. Currently, I have a website and a blog (which you are reading now!)

You may or may not know, I got my start by selling information products on eBay and will continue to do so in the near future. Also, I am in the process of creating my own eBook on how to sell information products on the eBay. It includes a over 160 pages, 8 videos and all the products one would need to start selling eBooks on eBay right away. But, selling information is not the only way to make money from the Internet.

My wife recently went back to work after having our third child and she is fed up with the how her life is going. She hates having to leave the children everyday to go to work. She knows I put in long hours to keep up with my school work, I am a high school math teacher, and working on my eBook and website. She came to me with a great domain name fedupworkingmom.com.

I was stoked that she wanted to start marketing the Internet!! She was a little worried that she would not know what to do. I told her not to worry, because I was already doing a lot of things she was going to be doing. She was like, “but I have know idea how to put links into my blog so I could make money!” I was like, “baby, don’t worry. I will handle that part of it, all you have to do is blog and create content.”

As I blog more about life with my wife, Kara Lynn, she always has alot to say about everything and to manage a successful blog, all she has to do is put her thoughts into words! You should have seen the look in her eyes when I told her I would support her 100% in managing her blog! It made me tear up. I was so happy to make her day and I know she had a feeling of empowerment, knowing she would be on her way to quitting her full time job in the near future.

That is all for now. Until next time!

Search Engine Optimization, What Is It?

January 20, 2009 by David John · Leave a Comment
Filed under: search engine optimization

Search Engine Optimization is a process of choosing the most appropriate targeted keyword phrases related to your site and ensuring that this ranks your site highly in search engines so that when someone searches for specific phrases it returns your site on top.

It basically involves fine tuning the content of your site along with the HTML and Meta tags and also involves appropriate link building process. The most popular search engines are Google, Yahoo, MSN Search, AOL and Ask Jeeves. Search engines keep their methods and ranking algorithms secret, to get credit for finding the most valuable search-results and to deter spam pages from clogging those results. A search engine may use hundreds of factors while ranking the listings where the factors themselves and the weight each carries may change continually.

Algorithms can differ so widely that a web page that ranks #1 in a particular search engine could rank #200 in another search engine. New sites need not be “submitted” to search engines to be listed. A simple link from a well established site will get the search engines to visit the new site and begin to spider its contents. It can take a few days to even weeks from the referring of a link from such an established site for all the main search engine spiders to commence visiting and indexing the new site.

If you are unable to research and choose keywords and work on your own search engine ranking, you may want to hire someone to work with you on these issues.

Search engine marketing and promotion companies, will look at the plan for your site and make recommendations to increase your search engine ranking and website traffic. If you wish, they will also provide ongoing consultation and reporting to monitor your website and make recommendations for editing and improvements to keep your site traffic flow and your search engine ranking high. Normally your search engine optimization experts work with your web designer to build an integrated plan right away so that all aspects of design are considered at the same time.

7 Ways to Drive Laser-Targeted Traffic

January 18, 2009 by David John · Leave a Comment
Filed under: Driving Traffic

An affiliate marketer may have all the things needed for him to be able to succeed in a business such as affiliate marketing. He may have the necessary drive, diligence and perseverance to be able to understand how the system works. He may have all the tools necessary in maintaining the business, including a really unique and interesting website which could earn him a fortune if only the whole world could see it. However, all these would prove useless if he does not know how to drive traffic to his website. His business would sink into oblivion together with all the sales, fortune and dreams that he might have realized if he only knew how to do this particular task.

Getting people who matter to see one’s website is a difficult undertaking if he tries to consider the fact that there are rivals everywhere waiting to pin him down. The immensity of the internet as well as the affiliate marketing world has given birth to the fierce competition between affiliate marketers, each of whom has his own great product to offer. With all the websites piling on top of each other, how would one be able to stand out? The seven best ways to drive laser-targeted traffic to one’s own website would help those who are bent on sticking it out with this business wherever it is bound to take them.

The first step in driving traffic to one’s website is by relying on search engines and what they can do for the affiliate marketer concerned. Because they are popular for driving free targeted traffic, they should not be ignored by all means. Having top search engine rankings is vital in building popularity links, and the use of the right keywords is important in attaining this goal. Once a website is on top of the list, it is easily accessible to anyone who wants to see it for himself.

The second way in driving traffic to one’s website is by contacting other webmasters for a possible link exchange partnership. Locating websites that are related to one’s own website is the primary task. Once there, he should be able to establish communication by personalizing everything as much as possible. It is then possible to make reciprocal link exchanges between webmasters whichever way the affiliate marketer prefers.

The third way is through writing one’s own articles. This is an effective way in promoting a website, because good content that are appreciated by readers will lead them to visit the writer’s very own website out of sheer interest.

The fourth way is through joint venture marketing. This is one of the most effective ways of promoting a product or a service. Having a partner through ad swap or link exchange is beneficial to both parties as it allows them to reach a wide customer base in a short amount of time.

The fifth is through joining affiliate programs. Having affiliates to do the work means allowing them to bring tons of traffic to a website. Skyrocketing sales would be realized as a result, and both the affiliate and the website owner will benefit from the situation.

The sixth is by having a list of subscribers that one can refer to every so often, because they are those which would prove to be valuable assets for the marketer concerned. The use of autoresponders and personalized newsletters is one way of keeping track of them all, and holding on to them by letting them know about new products and services is an essential task that should be done by the affiliate marketer concerned.

The seventh is by knowing one’s market through and through. It is important for traffic to be targeted to those who might have a special interest in the theme or topic of one’s website. This way, a solid customer base is going to be created. Once a potential customer shows an interest in a particular website by paying it a visit, one must not waste time in trying to show him that his effort is worth it.

Traffic generating strategies are important in trying to make one’s affiliate marketing career inch forward. It is always advantageous to plan one’s moves in any business that he might undertake. This is particularly so in affiliate marketing. If one knows how to get people to see what he has to offer, then he is on the right track.

Stay at Home Dad

January 16, 2009 by David John · Leave a Comment
Filed under: Being Dad

Wow, I never imagined that being home with the kids was such a hard, but enjoyable job. It is amazing to see the how my 4 and 2 1/2 year old girls interact and how much they adore they baby brother.

This is the second day this week that I have been home with the kids by myself. My mother, who watches my kids has been really sick and my wife has just gone back to work after having our 1st baby boy. Yes, my wife and I still work full time jobs as I am building my internet marketing empire. It is not easy working, raising a family and building an internet business, but it is totally worth it. Days like today give me a taste of what life is going to be like when I can leave my full time job as a math teacher. Don’t get me wrong, I love teaching, but kids today have not been taught to respect authority, which makes it trying to be a teacher.

Being a teacher has given the unique ability to break the most complex tasks down for others to learn. That is why I have written an eBook. I want to continue to teach and I can do that by writing how to books.

The fact is, as I write this, my baby boy is upstairs sleeping and my two girls are in their playroom playing with dolls. This is the reason I want to earn enough money to start working from home. I love to hear my children and being at home allows me to hear and see them anytime I want…

I just got back. I took a break from writing this entry to go break up a fight between my girls. There was some conflict over a doll. Being a dad, I told them, either they will share the doll or the doll will go in the garbage!! My wife would probably be angry at me for making such a threat, but it worked!!

Anyway, back to my goals. My first goal with this online business is make enough money for my wife to quit working. I am really stoked, because I think she will be able to quit work sometime in the fall of this year! I am putting the finishing touches on my eBook and video series, which I hope to start selling in the next 4 to 6 weeks.

Thanks for reading and until next time,

David John

3 Quick and Easy Ways To Build A Profitable Opt In List

January 11, 2009 by David John · Leave a Comment
Filed under: Email Marketing, Optin List Building
You finally realize that you need a good opt-in list. After reading countless articles and sought expert advices and have read many success stories of people creating a small fortune with opt-in lists you finally decide to have one of your own. Then it happens, you think you have known everything there is to know about opt-in lists and have followed their advices to the T and you still weren’t able to make a profit. In fact, you may be losing money. You maybe hiring writers to help you out, or there are some expenses incurred, even if you have a big list, but only a very small percentage actually buys from you, your still losing profit. You’ll realize that after a few months when you see your statistics and sales figures. So what could have gone wrong? Why have others succeeded where you have failed? The most common mistake is that you dived straight right in. You chose a topic where you think could be quite popular and would earn you money. This just not the case. Just because you wrote people from the list doesn’t mean they are going to buy instantly. Here I will offer more advice, for those who have started an opt-in list and have failed, you can rejuvenate your failed venture. For those who are starting, here are three quick and easy ways to build a profitable opt-in list.

  1. Get your customers to trust you and your products first. Just launching your opt-in list would not make you an expert and a believable seller. Put many articles first before you start an opt-in list. Write about the topic you know and have started and used for your site. Try to put forums first to gain knowledge about your customers about their wants and needs and target those wants and needs.

Join forums from other sites as well. Provide expert advices and recommendations. When you feel that people trust you already, you will be able to start your own opt-in list. You can build a base as well with other forum users. You can ask them to join your list. Friends are always good customers. Put up a link to your site so that they may be able to see what you’re business is all about. The certain truth is, the money will only come in when the consumers and subscribers believe and trust in you. They want a product or service that could be a good exchange for their money. People are not going to buy something out of your recommendation if they don’t know you.

  2. Find a product or service that people want and need. Although it may not be your forte, if you provide a service and product that you have researched and learned about well, you can carry it on forward. Invest your time, effort and money that you could sell as well as the buyers or subscribers of your opt-in list can use.

While it is true that it is best to sell something that you have interest in, there are not many people who have the same interest as you if you decide to sell something that is not entirely popular or profitable. Do your research well and you would see the profits come in. Also provide your subscribers with promotional material that they could actually use and spread around.

  3. Make friends with other opt-in list users. This is basically beneficial especially if it is someone who has already launched a successful opt-in list. These are people that have the experience in this venture and experience is still the best teacher. While there are many articles available for you in the internet to use, there is nothing like getting a first hand account from someone you trust.

Experienced opt-in list users will be able to tell you what to do and what not to do because they have gone through it. While different situations occur for different people, the general concept can still be very helpful. There are many things to avoid and these people will be able to tell you which ones.

Building a profitable opt-in list don’t just happen overnight. There are many preparations and effort to do. Opt-in lists are built from scratch, as your list grows, you should also maintain the quality of your list. Keep it organized and manageable. Get or hire help if need be, just make sure that your subscribers are happy and satisfied and they will be willing to buy from you.
